Home Instruments Safety Management Road Safety Impact Assessment

The RIA method proposed by the new European Directive 2008/96/EC provides an analysis of road safety across the board, to be implemented in the planning and rehabilitation of roads and targeted not only to items subject to change, but extending the analysis to entire road network and especially to those infrastructures that may vary in terms of traffic flows and / or function.

Objectives:

Ensuring that safety is integrated over the entire road network in all phases of:

  • planning
  • design
  • exercise

Benefits:

Ensuring consistent safety standards across the road network and the various modes of transport, including pedestrian and cylce traffic, and the path of Public Transport, also providing any recommendations on the policies of transformation / development of the urban area.

Process analysis:

Two different levels:

Global: safety analysis identifies the accident rate for each mode of transport by coefficients providing the accident rate per unit of displacement in case of change of modal split.

Specific: safety analysis identifies the functions of performance through accidents or through predictive models of road accidents.
