SAFETY MANAGEMENT

(directive 2008/ec)

Road safety forecasting analysis aims at identifying a priori potentially hazardous situations on a network or project.

Risk analysis complies and enhances the criteria defied by the European Directives, called Safety Audit when applied to projects, respectively Safety Inspection/Review when applied to existing roads.

The analysis criteria foresee to use Checklists as an identification tool as well as a screening level mitigation tool. Such lists, different for each phase of a study (preliminary, final, executive or in service), are organized following various themes such as: paving, geometry, handicapped users, lighting, etc.

ROAD SAFETY IMPACT ASSESSMENT

This method involves the analysis of road safety in the broadest sense, including not only the main elements will vary, but all the infrastructure that directly or indirectly are subject to change with regard to traffic flows and their function.

ROAD SAFETY AUDIT

The Safety Audit applied to a project, is generally carried out at three levels, i.e. preliminary, final, executive.

This analysis is based on independent expert review, focusing on road safety.

ROAD SAFETY INSPECTION

The Safety Inspection does not substitute traditional accident analysis, but it is its natural complement.

The analysis bears on the global compliance of the road system and seeks to correct situations that have the potential to generate future unacceptable accidents.
