Home Activity Methodologies

Proper planning of new infrastructures or changes in traffic flow require an analysis of past incidents and a forecast of future ones.

Based on this assumption, Eu.Ro.Sa.In. proposes a road safety methodology derived from long term experience and implemented by a team of skilled road and risk analysis experts.

Our studies follow and expand on the European Guidelines for Road Safety and Planning of Safety Enhancement Programs.

DATA GATHERING

Generally a multidisciplinary approach is used to identify triggers and causes to an accident that, generally speaking, belong to the environment-vehicle-man system.

  • Survey of the road parameters
  • Survey of traffic flows
  • Census of accidents

QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS

The geographic distribution of phenomena is used to pinpoint critical elements of the network under consideration.

  • Critical spots maps- segments and intersections
  • Frequency tables of accidents
  • Risk tables (accidents/traffic)
  • Vulnerability and consequence tables (casualties/accident)

QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS

Identification of the most significant or design accident, together with its potential causes.

  • Diagram of accident classification
  • Prioritization of causes or possible defects of the network

MITIGATIVE PROPOSALS

  • Definition of possible mitigation
  • Evaluation of effectiveness for each mitigation
  • Evaluation of implementation costs
  • Cost/benefit analyses and prioritizations

SAFETY MONITORING

Post implementation efficiency measurements and evaluations.

  • Before/After analyses
  • Cross-section analyses
  • Experimental tests
